All 19 black women who ran for various judicial seats in Harris County, Texas, won their races last night, marking the single biggest victory for black women in the county’s history.
The women are being referred to as the #Houston19. Their victory has obvious local impact seeing as Harris County, which encompasses most of Houston, is the third-largest county in the country, and one of the most diverse.
The Associated Press (AP) confirms this on Wednesday, November 11, 2018. She could be the third rapper added to the organization joining recent inductees Jay Z and Jermaine Dupri.
Missy Elliot feels honoured getting the recognition and shares her feelings in a tweet she posted today.
“I am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers Congratulations to all of them also.”
Mariah Carey, Chrissie Hynde, Vince Gill, Mike Love, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lynne, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Lloyd Price, Tommy James and the Eurythmics and others, have been listed as performing nominees at the Hall’s 50th annual Induction & Awards Gala in New York on June 13, 2019.
Missy Elliot’s nomination is as a result of fulfilling a demanding feature required for eligibility.
Songwriters considered for an entry into the hall of fame are often those who have been wring published songs for a period of 20 years.
The rapper’s debut studio album “Supa Dupa Fly” which turned 20 in the year 2017, makes her eligible.
By Monday, December 17, 2018, members of the Hall of Fame will have voted for three non-performing songwriters and three performing songwriters to be revealed before the New York event.

Simone Biles has become the first woman to ever win 4 all-around world title in Gymnastics. After emerging as the winner of the women’s all around 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship last week Thursday, she went ahead to compete in Doha, Qatar where she beat the silver medalist, Mai Murkami of Japan by 1.7 points.
Team USA reports that this would the eighth time in a row that an American has either won the world or Olympic all-around title. This means that Biles is responsible for five of those consecutive wins, as she has never lost a championship.
One of the highlights of her victory was her ability to stay focused even though she had been hospitalised less than 24 hours before world championship. She tweeted about her illness and also shared photos of herself while in the ER with the caption;

14-year old Gloria Ajala has become a Governor for a day in Lagos.
Gloria is a student of Lafiaji Senior High School and participated in the Lagos Spelling Bee competition.
Meanwhile, her benefits include: becoming the Governor of Lagos for a day and attending a cultural exchange programme in Finland with ‘her cabinet’.
She has received a cheque of N250,000 as the major award for winning the Spelling Bee contest.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat-Oluranti Adebule also said Gloria would receive a University scholarship from the Lagos State Government.
Dr. Adebule commended other competitors saying that she is proud of them and is happy about their performance. Grace Ikhariale took second, and Oluwatosin Akinbode took third place.
Meanwhile, as Gloria becomes the Governor for one day, she would join the list of numerous people who have been entitled with this position.

Dr Hadiyah-Nicole Green is the recent winner of $1.1 million grant from the Veterans Affairs’ Office of Research & Development to begin clinical trials to further develop a technology she’s pioneered that uses laser-activated nanoparticles to treat cancer.
Here are 8 things you should know about Dr Hadiyah-Nicole Green.
1.Green was orphaned at a young age and raised by her aunt and uncle in St. Louis Missouri
2.She attended Alabama A&M University with a full scholarship, where she studied physics and earned her bachelor’s degree in physics and optics in 2003.
3.Green continued her education at the University of Alabama Birmingham with another full scholarship, where she earned her Masters Degree in physics in 2009 and her PhD in Physics in 2012.
4.Green lost both her guardians to cancer during her undergraduate days.
5.Green was a member of a team that developed a laboratory method to insert nanoparticles into cancer cells while avoiding surrounding healthy cells in USA.
6.In 2016, Green became an assistant professor at Morehouse School of Medicine in Physiology department.
7.She received a $1.1 million grant from the Veterans Affairs’ Office of Research & Development to begin clinical trials.
8.Dr Green created the technology that kills cancer cells with a treatment using laser-activated nanoparticles.

Mo Abudu, chairman and CEO Of EbonyLife Media, has been named on The Powerlist 2018, an annual list of the UK’s top 100 most influential people of African and Caribbean heritage alongside Meghan Markle, Anthony Joshua, John Boyega, Idris Elba, Thandie Newton, Naomie Harris and more.
The 12-year-old Powerlist is chosen from a list of nominees by a distinguished panel, chaired by a former high court judge, that includes a Queen’s Counsel and leading professionals in business and the arts. Each year, the panel is reminded that ‘influence’ of the nominees is defined as “the ability to positively alter events and change lives as over a protracted period of time”.
Based on this, they give each nominee marks out of 10 on two indices: 1) how influential they are among their immediate sphere of expertise and 2) how far that influence reaches into the wider world.

The Powerlist is the most authoritative recognition of Black influence in the UK, therefore I am honoured and humbled to be included. It’s nice to know that those of us who return home to make our contribution is not being overlooked. This publication is sent to schools and universities all over the UK, so I hope that my story can influence even one child to follow their dreams.
Topping the Powerlist is Ric Lewis, chief executive and chairman of Tristan Capital Partners, the largest black majority-owned private company in Britain, with total assets under management in excess of €10 billion (N4.7 trillion). His charity, the Black Heart Foundation, provides educational scholarships to young people in need in the UK and abroad.
The Powerlist was revealed at a gala dinner in the City of London on Tuesday 23rd October, held to celebrate the honorees and raise funds for related charities.
