In December, 2019 Zozibini Tunzi made South Africa and the entire black race proud as she won the Miss Universe Pageant.

The beauty who also campaigns against gender-based violence believes the world is ready to embrace a different narrative of beauty.

In an interview with Forbes Africa, just before her historic win, while she was still Miss South Africa, she conveys the struggles of being a woman in her home country.

“We have come so far from the Stone Age and a lot has changed but more can still be done. We find that women are still trying to shatter the glass ceiling and I hope one day we won’t have to do that.”

One thing she would like to change about the industry

She understands it has taken a while for the world to recognize being African as beautiful and how that is slowly moving into a space where been black and being curvy is also beautiful. “It needs to change at a faster pace. I’m hopeful that we will soon get there,” She said.

Zozi comes as a woman who lives by principles such as humility, kindness and respect. “They are the core of everything I live by”, she pointed.

She leaves a message for young African women

My message to them is to never compromise on who they are and what they believe in. They should not be afraid to bend the rules even if just a little. All the greats in the world have had to fight for what they believe in so we shouldn’t be scared to do it too.

MBGN Universe, Olutosin Araromi, was definitely one to watch out for at this year’s Miss Universe beauty pageant, and this she proved by placing among the top 20 out of 90 contestants.

Olutosin competed alongside 90 other ladies at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, at the event which saw South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi getting crowned as the 68th Miss Universe.

Tosin’s general charisma, poise and intelligence made it possible for her to place as a finalist, which is interestingly the first time in many years a Nigerian will place at the top spot.

When it was Olutosin’s turn to say something about herself, the 25-year-old public speaker who tragically lost her mum during the 2019 MBGN pageant, mentioned that the death of her mom has taught her perseverance and she uses her story to inspire and uplift youths.
