Funke Akindele Bello has joined forces with EbonyLife for her directorial debut, Your Excellency.

Funke Akindele has always passed social commentary in everything she’s involved with, right from her breakout in I Need To Know. This time, with “Your Excellency”, she’s taking on the political landscape and adding her signature brand of humour to the pertinent subject matter.

Speaking about the film’s synopsis, Mo Abudu said:

“Your Excellency tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi, a bumbling, billionaire businessman and failed presidential candidate, who is obsessed with Donald Trump.

Just when his campaign looks set to be another disaster, Ajadi is anointed by a major party and becomes a credible contender – all through the power of social media.”

Your Excellency boasts a star-studded cast that includes Lala Akindoju, Eku Edewor, Alexx Ekubo, Osas Ighodalo, Ini Dima-Okojie, Deyemi Okanlawon, Chigul and Helen Paul.

Nigerian celebrities, Funke Akindele Bello and Tiwa Savage are the richest female Nigerian celebrities on Instagram.

According to the Instagram Rich List 2019, Akindele at 45th position is the richest female Nigerian celebrity globally with over 8 million followers and earns 50,500 dollars which is (over 18 million Naira).

Singer, Tiwa Savage who follows closely at 48th position is second richest with over 7.5 million followers, earning 47,200 dollars (17 million Naira).

The list, compiled by Instagram scheduling tool HopperHQ, shows that billionaire entrepreneur, Kylie Jenner with Instagram followers of 141 million, is the world’s richest entertainer, has a worth of $1,226,000 per post.

Singer and actress, Ariana Grande is second on the list with an Instagram followership of 158.4 million and a worth of $996,000 per post to emerge second ahead of Ronaldo.

Kim Kardashian is fourth on the list, followed by Selena Gomez in fifth position and Beyonce in the seventh position.

Dettol unveiled Funke Akindele as the brand ambassador and major driver of the Clean Naija initiative on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. The initiative, aims to create awareness, educate and drive behavioural change among Nigerians in order to achieve a cleaner nation through the continuous habit of handwashing.

As an advocate for healthy living, Funke has indicated her commitment to educating Nigerians on the best hygiene practice through the Clean Naija initiative, which will ultimately help build healthier lives and happier homes.

Speaking at the event, Funke revealed that as a new Mother, she has come to appreciate the need for improved hygiene practices and that the campaign will help sensitize Nigerians on its health benefits.

The General Manager, RB West Africa, Mr. Dayanand Sriram who was particularly excited and enthused about the partnership also noted that having recorded success in various selfless activities, Funke Akindele has been a worthy role model and an inspiration for all Nigerians.

The initiative comes at a critical time, as Nigeria has been ranked amongst the top nations that bear a significant portion of the global disease burden and high under-5 mortality rates with over 150,000 children dying yearly.

Many of these diseases, such as diarrhoea can be prevented by proper hand washing habits and wide scale hygiene education. This is a major motivation for the setting up of the Clean Naija Initiative.

Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele-Bello, has just hit 4million followers on Instagram. This makes her the first Nigerian actress to attain that in the movie industry.

She is also the first female celebrity in Nigeria to attain that number of Instagram followers beating the likes of tiwa savage, yemi alade,Genevieve Nnaji etc.

The actress took to her instagram page to appreciate fans. She wrote;

Wow!!!! 4M followers on Instagram!!! Thanks to all my followers. I really appreciate all my fans for their support and kind words. God bless you all. I will be giving out some lovely gifts to celebrate this. Watch this space…

This year’s  African Magic Viewers Choice Awards took place last week Saturday and below are the outstanding women who went home with awards!

The United We Stand campaign is an effort to raise awareness about the rampant issue of counterfeiting, intellectual property theft and piracy in Nigeria.

Spread across many industries, it brings together all who continue to deal with these issues that not only affects their revenue, but also the purity and integrity of their hard work in creating their products.

Venue: Filmhouse Cinemas, off Bisola Durosinmi Etti Drive, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Alongside renowned beauty entrepreneurs Tara Fela-Durotoye of House of Tara International and Oke Maduewesi of Zaron Cosmetics, members of the campaign collective include Funke Akindele-Bello, representing the entertainment industry and their struggle against intellectual property theft and illegal re-distribution; Temitayo Eyitayo of 24 Apparel standing in the gap for the producers of branded clothing and consumer goods fighting counterfeiting; Uzo Uzeoke sharing Emzor Pharmaceuticals’ battle against counterfeit medication and other products in the healthcare and wellness sector; and media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo speaking on the widespread issue as it persists and affects us all across all sectors and social classes, both as creators and consumers.

The Hon. Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar will deliver the keynote address to social influencers, entrepreneurs, small business owners and corporate body representatives, who have been invited to a stakeholder meeting towards finding a solution to these problems.

A moving documentary starring members of the campaign collective was directed by Kemi Adetiba and will also be screened at the meeting. In it, they recollect the journey from building their business to discovering their work is being illegally copied.

The campaign is a stand against injustice, imploring the Nigerian public to take the extra steps to preserve hard work and to ensure consumer safety. It is also a call for government and regulators to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, and to encourage a change in consumer behaviour.
