Cyntoia Brown is a former child sex slave who was sentenced to life in prison for killing a man who exploited her when she was just 16 years old in 2004.

The touching story of Cyntonia begins with being given up for adoption at eight months old  because her mother, Georgina Mitchell was a drug addict.

Her adoptive parent,  Ellenette Brown  provided a generally stable home but Cyntoia had not had sufficient stability in her life for proper emotional development and by 2004 had become a runaway at age 16.

From that stage on, her life went on a nose dive. Prior to running away from home, Cyntonia had had Sexual encounters that included many rapes, assaults during and before sex and times when she was under the influence of drugs. She had a pimp named Kutthroat who used her for prostitution while threatening her with guns.

It was during her time with Kutthroat that she was sold as a sex slave to a 43-year-old man known as Johnny Allen. On getting to Johnny Allen’s apartment, Cyntonia later said she saw several guns and was constantly afraid that the man would kill her.

Fearing for her life since Johnny was a former Army sharp-shooter, Cyntonia later shot and killed Johnny with one of his own guns.

When the case was taken to court, Cyntonia was given a life sentence with parole after 51 years.

13 years into her time in jail, her case gained media attention after a tweet showing her in court with the hashtag #FreeCyntoniaBrown went viral on Monday.

Now celebrities including Rihanna and  Kim Kardashian are using their fame to call for justice on her behalf. Kim Kardashian even revealed that she has called her attorneys to see what can be done to help Cyntonia who is now a 29-year-old young lady.

Supermodel Cara Delevingne was also outraged as she wrote in an Instagram post

‘The justice system is so backwards!!! This is completely insane #freecyntoiabrown.’

In another Instagram post, singer Rihanna wrote,

“We somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way?? Something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life!  To each of you responsible for this child’s sentence I hope to God you don’t have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already!”

Several other celebrities also took to their social media pages to show their support for the Free Cyntonia course and hopefully, this time around justice will be served for her.

(Photo: Geoff Blackwell and Ruth Hobday)

200 Women contains astute interviews and stunning portraits of 200 iconic women from a variety of backgrounds, including Danielle Brooks (Orange Is The New Black), Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave), Margaret Atwood (The Handmaid’s Tale) and more.

In an excerpt from the book, which asked Chimamanda what she would change in the world if she could, she answered:

“I can’t pick just one thing; I would eliminate all forms of gender, racial and religious injustice.

The issues are their own, independent issues, but they cannot be analysed in isolation from one another.

It’s very complex and is always a work in progress for me — the issues are connected and they are not, but, however strong their connection to one another is, they’ve got to go!”

When asked, in conclusion, about the single word she most identifies with, Chimamanda answered simply and insightfully: “Human”.

Britain is marking the 70th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip.

In honor of their 70th wedding anniversary, the royal palace released new portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip this week, showing the long-lasting couple ahead of their landmark milestone.

Taken by British portrait photographer Matt Holyoak, the images show the couple in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. The Queen, 91, wears a yellow gold broach that Philip, 96, gave her decades ago in 1966, according to People.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh wed exactly 70 years ago on Nov. 20, 1947, when she was 21 and he was 26. The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey — the coveted spot for marriages in the Royal Family. The Queen’s parents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth wed there in April 1932, and Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, had their ceremony there in 2011. (Queen Elizabeth was the 10th member of the Royal Family to be married there, according to The Royal Family’s official website.)

How are we training the boys? Guy, how are you “re-training” yourself? We should know that how they are trained now is what they’ll carry into life : adulthood, manhood, leadership, “husbandhood” and fatherhood. Let us train them that they are not better than or superior to the girls. The role of a man is to lead and not to boss. Leadership is service. Let us help them to know that they must apply balance in their approach to life. To be considerate. Be helpful. Kind. To make sure that they endeavor to add unto whoever comes their way, not just claiming rights. To treat girls with respect. To share. Is it not just the girls we’re training and talking to about etiquette and manners? What are we telling the boys? Or we’re only equipping them to “work hard and provide”? The dynamics of life have changed and are still changing. Provision from the man is more than money. Especially because we’re even training and equipping the girls to have and sustain money too! Where’s the “EXTRA” the boys would bring to the table? Money? Education? Intelligence? Great jobs? What? Those are common these days! Let us train them that putting money down is not everything.Their sense of value MUST NOT be tied to money! That being vulnerable to their loved ones would not reduce them. Men can cry. Men cry. Strong people cry. Sometimes, all the bottled up emotions manifest as violence, yes. I know we can see the effect of imbalanced training on marriages these days. True love still exists. But the dynamics have changed! No, not that girls don’t want to stay in marriages, it is because simply, the dynamics have changed. Somewhere in a regular guy’s mind is demanding his woman’s submission without realising that it is by being in his place, giving himself up, in all, for her. When a woman knows that you’re all for her, submission comes easy, even when she has more, or is stronger. I believe it’s that simple. Let us contribute to the peace in mankind by training not just the girls but our boys too. The way the world is going, it is not JUST about being a man anymore. It’s the little little things! May the girls send good thoughts our way in future! Train. Retrain. Balance!
