Azeezat Sofunde, fondly known as Zazee, is working to change that through The Crafters Connect. As a broadcaster, African voice talent, art and craft enthusiast and community builder, she is creating a platform where African creatives can tell their stories, showcase their skills and become more discoverable.
Building a platform for African crafters
The idea for The Crafters Connect grew from Azeezat’s belief that creativity deserves visibility, connection and opportunity. She observed that many African crafters were producing valuable and beautiful work but did not have a dedicated platform through which they could share the stories behind their creations, connect with other creatives or reach potential customers and collaborators.
Rather than build another general craft community, Azeezat envisioned a bridge between African creativity and the wider world. Her goal is to create a space where crafters can be discovered, celebrated as CraftStars, exchange knowledge, access useful resources and find opportunities to develop sustainable creative ventures.
“The Crafters Connect was inspired by a strong belief that creativity deserves visibility, connection and opportunity,” she explains.
Creating visibility through storytelling
The Crafters Connect gives African crafters an opportunity to move beyond simply displaying finished products. Through craft storytelling, creatives can introduce audiences to the people, techniques, experiences and purpose behind their work. This allows potential customers and collaborators to understand not only what has been created, but also why it matters.
The platform’s Craftzine provides editorial space for these stories, helping creatives present their work to a broader audience. Its Crafters Directory is designed to make African crafters and craftpreneurs easier to discover, contact and potentially patronize.
Community conversations also create opportunities for interaction, learning, collaboration and honest discussions about the realities of building a creative business.
By bringing these elements together, The Crafters Connect is helping transform isolated creative efforts into more visible and connected enterprises.
Why African creativity deserves wider recognition
For Azeezat, African creativity should not be viewed solely as a collection of handmade products or cultural expressions. It represents knowledge, identity, technical skill, entrepreneurship and economic potential. Every craft carries the experience of its creator and may also represent a business that requires investment, visibility and support.
She wants more people to recognize the commercial and cultural value within Africa’s creative communities. This recognition can open doors to new customers, partnerships, collaborations and opportunities for sustainable growth. It can also ensure that the people behind the work receive appropriate acknowledgement for their ideas and skills.
Using her voice to inform and connect
Azeezat’s work with creatives is closely connected to her experience as a broadcaster, podcast host and African voice talent. Her voice has appeared in audiobooks, animation series, television and radio jingles, as well as other narrations across broadcast platforms. She also hosts The CraftStars Chat with Zazee, the Beautiful Birth Stories Podcast and other purpose-driven conversations.
These experiences have taught her that a voice is more than a sound. It can be used to inform, celebrate people, draw attention to valuable ideas and inspire positive action.
She believes authentic storytelling requires listening as much as speaking. Whether she is narrating a story, hosting a conversation or amplifying the work of a crafter, her intention is to help people feel seen, informed and encouraged.
“How we say something can be just as important as what we say,” she says.
As an African voice talent, Azeezat embraces the richness of African accents, cultures, languages and experiences. She approaches her voice as both a responsibility and a gift—one that can create memorable connections while helping meaningful stories reach the people who need to hear them.
Building a connected creative ecosystem
Azeezat’s larger vision extends across her work through iamazeezah, The Crafters Connect, her narration and voiceover projects, Beautiful Birth Stories and Voices Meet Purpose.
She is building towards a connected ecosystem in which voice, storytelling, media and community can create lasting value. For The Crafters Connect, the goal is to grow from a platform that showcases crafts into a recognized community and discovery hub for African crafters and craftpreneurs around the world.
She wants the platform to connect stories, skills, products, people and opportunities while making it easier for creatives to move from being talented but overlooked to visible, connected and supported.
“My goal is to use my voice and platforms to build bridges—between creatives and audiences, stories and opportunities, culture and the world,” she explains.
Through this work, Azeezat Sofunde is demonstrating what becomes possible when creativity is supported by intentional storytelling, community and access.
