In the third edition of its annual recognition, 9to5Chick, a career development platform for Africa’s most ambitious women has gone beyond Nigeria to recognize the outstanding achievements and remarkable impact of mid and senior-level female professionals across Africa. Before this edition, the 9to5chick top 100 career women list had focused on celebrating only Nigerian women. However, this latest issue takes it up a notch by amplifying the voices of African women in the corporate sector who are defying the odds and disrupting the status quo in their industries.

Aligned with the theme of the 2023 International Women’s Day, ‘Embrace Equity’, this list features women from 5 African regions across 18 countries who have been evaluated based on the influence of their role, their impact, including giveback initiatives both within and outside their careers, documented thought leadership, and career achievements. The breakdown of the representation from the different African regions is West Africa (64), East Africa (16), Southern Africa (16), North Africa (3), and Central Africa (1).

After exhaustive scrutiny, the result is a list of 100 female professionals from close to 20 industries who are advancing excellence and professionalism in Africa’s corporate sector. These women are paving the way for the next generation of female leaders, and their achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their careers.

This evaluation was carried by an independent advisory panel also known as the judges comprising , Yemi Faseun, Chief Talent Officer at YF Talent Partners, Osayi Alile, CEO of Aspire Coronation Trust, Funke Amobi, Regional Head People & Culture Nigeria & West Africa Standard Bank Group,   Nkiru Olumide – Ojo, Africa Regions Executive Head, Marketing Corporate Communications & CSI at Standard Bank Group, and Tewa Onasanya,  Founder/CEO of Exquisite Magazine Services Ltd.

Speaking about the latest recognition list, the president of the 9to5Chick, Glory Edozien PhD noted that the platform’s focus on Nigerian women in previous editions had inspired the team to take the initiative to the next level and recognize outstanding women from across the continent.

She added, “We are proud to celebrate African women on the continent working in the corporate sector. We believe that this list goes beyond celebrating these women, but is also wholly inspirational to women across Africa and diaspora. It’s not only about the power of the African woman but her drive, and her contributions on the continent. Our goal is to amplify the voices of these women who have achieved so much but may not have received the recognition they deserve. We hope that this recognition will inspire more women to pursue their dreams, break barriers, and make a positive impact in their communities.”

  1. Audrey Abakah

SME, Agency banking and Partnership / Absa, Ghana

 Audrey is the Head of SME, Agency banking and Partnership at Absa Ghana. She has over 16 years working relationship with Barclays Bank. Her Leadership has transformed the SME business from a non-performing state to a thriving business winning the best SME bank for 2019, 2020 and 2021. Prior to this role, she served as the Head of Service Excellence and was a member of The country management team for 4 years. She extensively championed customer service transformation to significantly improve the service experience.

As a multiple award winner, She has received 2 citations as the best SME personality of the year 2021 and Financial inclusion personality of the year 2021 at the 8th edition of the Women in Banking and Finance award 2021. She is a recipient of the prestigious Excellence in Corporate Leadership Award 2021at the SHE Awards in Dubai by Ladies in business magazine global.

Audrey is a human capital development coach with a strong passion to help people unlock their potential and discover their purpose through mentoring and coaching relationships. She is a training facilitator and has extensively trained leaders within Barclays and other organisations She is a motivational and conference speaker, a preacher, and workshop facilitator. She is the Board Chairperson of Rehoboth Foundation and also the President of the Women Network Forum at Absa, championing Gender D & I within the bank.

  1. Catherine Mwakasitu

Head of Finance and Operations/Financial Sector Deepening Tanzania

Catherine is a seasoned Finance and Risk professional with over 11 years of progressive and diversified experience in both private and public sector across Eastern and Southern Africa. She is a demonstrated successful leader who has the ability to manage across the whole balanced scorecard within a business.

Catherine’s experience cuts across financial management and compliance, risk management, stakeholder management, corporate governance, strategy development and oversight, operations management, business process improvement, leading teams, project management, team building and organizational development.

She is a certified fraud examiner and has a strong academic background of finance having graduated in 2011 from Mzumbe University with a Bachelor of Accounting in Business Accounting and Finance and later on in 2022, pursuing a master’s in business administration at Eastern and Southern African Management Institute.

Catherine is currently overseeing finance and operations at Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT). Prior to FSDT, she worked as a Senior Manager, Risk Advisory at Deloitte Consulting Limited. At FSDT, she is currently responsible for all administrative, operational, and contractual aspects of the trust with oversight of finance, compliance, grants management, procurement, project delivery, program operations, talent management, and human resources. She is also responsible for ensuring that FSDT’s governance functions run smoothly, with appropriate communication between the board and management.

  1. Carol Ariyibi

Head, Corporate Transformation/ARM Holding Company Ltd., Nigeria

Carol Ariyibi is a people leader, who is adept at applying her extensive project development expertise to enable transformation through technology, collaborative ways of working and strong strategy execution skills. She believes strongly in intrapreneurship, and empowering individuals and teams through coaching and mentoring.

She is a certified Agile Coach (ICP-ACC), Digital Transformation delivery expert, PMO Director, Change Leader (PROSCI certified), and Career Transition coach. She also holds various certifications in project management, project development, product development and change management.

Carol currently leads Corporate Transformation at one of the Top Tier Asset Management companies in Lagos Nigeria where her team partners with subsidiaries within the Group to leverage technology & lean business models to transform their business. As part of various training faculties, she has co-organized and led training workshops for over 800 people on project management, Microsoft productivity tools (Power Platforms, MS Teams), business analysis, change management, and agile product development.

Carol also serves as the Director, Memberships for the Agile Practitioners Association of Nigeria (APAON), a non-profit focused on advocating for Agile in Nigeria and Africa as well as the organizer of the Agile Nigeria Meetup and Business Agility Meetup Nigeria. She is also a Conference speaker, facilitator and advocate for Business Agility as a transformation strategy for Africa.

  1. Andrea Quaye

Snr Director, Global Category Lead – Coffee, The Coca-Cola Company, South Africa

She is the Senior Director, Global Category Lead-Coffee, The Coca-Cola Company. Prior to this she was the Vice President of  Marketing at Anheuser-Busch, Africa,  where she led the disruption of the Nigerian market with the Trophy and Hero Lager brands.

Another exploit was when the Carling Black Label ‘Be the Coach’ campaign won the Grand Prix at the Loeries; an African and Middle Eastern premier award that celebrates creative excellence in advertising. She was the first female Marketing Director of South African Breweries (SAB), during which she led digital marketing for all SAB brands.

For over 20 years, she has been involved in the growth of marketing strategies and has for the latter years executed the acceleration and profitability of multi-billion-dollar beverage brands in Africa.  Her experience traverses Unilever, Cell-C, SAB and Coca-Cola.

  1. Linda Obi 

    Head of Global Operations, Zenith Chain,Nigeria

Linda is a blockchain entrepreneur, educator and open-internet advocate. Linda is a highly accomplished technology executive and industry thought leader with a long history of driving high-growth mandates with more than 18 years of leadership in the technology industry,

Linda is the founder of TechonomyAfrica. This project-based learn-to-earn platform teaches Blockchain enthusiasts and students how to leverage blockchain and crypto education for investment, trade, build real products in areas such as NFTs, metaverse, tokens, blockchain, cybersecurity, data science, game development, and programming. All content is organized around projects where learners learn and earn from watching experienced curators, instructors, and developers that teach and build practical products.

She serves as Global Head of Operations at Zenith Chain a $36.5 million dollars backed Blokchain firm where she drives market actions , prior she Business Leader Nigeria for Farmcrowdy, the leading Agtech platform in West Africa focused on providing the necessary tools and technology for farmers and agribusinesses to boost food production with better yields, lower costs, and more innovative marketing.

  1. Cany Jobe

Director of Exploration and Production, Gambia National Petroleum Corporation, Gambia

Cany Jobe is the Director of Exploration and Production at the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation. As head of the department, she advises on oil and gas exploration projects; and structures, negotiates and oversees the implementation of high-value exploration activities of the NOC/IOC joint ventures and partnerships.

Cany is a dedicated and strategic Petroleum Engineer with a passion for cleaner and renewable energy technologies who has worked on energy projects in West Africa, South America, East Asia and Australia over the past 14 years. She is an experienced project management expert in the energy, oil and gas, and construction industries and holds a Master of Engineering degree in Oil and Gas from the University of West Australia and an MSc. in International Project Management from Glasgow Caledonian University with a previous B.Sc in Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering.

She is skilled in policy formulation, governance, administration and strategic planning having previously served as and Board Secretary for the national oil company and a Head of Administration & Procurement. Cany Jobe is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the Association of Project Managers and is an alumni of Australia Development Awards, Commonwealth Awards and Mining for Development.

She is an international conference speaker and panelist, a thought leader passionate about sustainable development, renewable energy, institution and nation building, quality education, women in stem, women in leadership, elimination of harmful practices against women, and economic equality.

  1. Mary Ojulari

Managing Director, Weststar Associates Limited(Mercedes-Benz Nigeria), Nigeria

 She is the President of European Business Chamber (Eurocham) and Managing Director at Weststar Associates Limited(Mercedes-Benz Nigeria).

She is a focused and result oriented finance executive with over 20 years’ experience of which she spent 12 years working in the diaspora. She has worked in a range of senior and director level roles in the media and service sectors. She has a reputation for setting strategic direction and establishing robust working relationships with relevant stakeholders.

She started her professional career with KPMG UK and thereafter moved to Whitbread PLC, the largest hospitality company in the UK. At Whitbread PLC, she was part of the team that implemented change management and carried out the due diligence for the sale of 160 restaurants to a Venture Capitalist. Mary worked in the media industry for 12 years (British Broadcasting Company (BBC), CNBC Africa & Forbes). She worked in leadership roles at the BBC, CNBC Africa & Forbes providing strategic direction and ensuring short to medium and long-term plans for the companies were viable and implemented.

  1. Rita Opiah

General Manager,  Park Inn by Radisson Serviced Apartments, Nigeria

 Rita Opiah is the General Manager, Park Inn by Radisson Serviced Apartments, Victoria Island, Lagos.

She is a hospitality veteran with nearly two decades of quality experience in the industry. Rita joined the Radisson Hotel Group in 2018, leading one of the swiftest transitioning and opening projects by the Group in Africa.

In her current role as General Manager, she oversees daily operations and executive management of a team with well over hundred employees, as well as the rollout of a multi-million-naira revamp and upgrade program which is well underway.

Through her years of service, she has become an asset to the Park Inn by Radisson brand, making her the first female Nigerian to occupy her current role as General Manager within the hotel group.

Rita holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a masters’ degree in International Relations from the prestigious University of Lagos.

Anchor, Arise News, Nigeria

 Ayo Mairo-Ese (nee Thompson) is a multiple award-winning Broadcaster, Event Compere and Public Speaker. She is a News Anchor at Arise News Channel, co-anchoring Nigeria’s foremost breakfast show – The Morning Show.

She began her career in media on TV with Cool TV in 2014 as a co-host on the popular talk show ‘The Blog’. As part of her duties, she produced content for the daily show.

  1. Adetola Salau

Senior Special Assistant on Education to the Governor, Lagos State,  Lagos state Government, Nigeria

 Ms Adetola Salau is a social innovative entrepreneur, global educator, author and transformation agent. She is currently the Senior Special Assistant on STEM Education to the Governor in Lagos State. She is also an Engineer and the author of more than ten books, one of which is a roadmap for transforming mindsets of African children; “Re-engineering minds for innovation”

Previously she founded Carisma4U Educational Foundation, which is a social innovation enterprise in 2015 with a focus on breaking the poverty cycle in Nigeria and Africa at large by equipping African children with highly competitive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) skills essential for the 4th industrial revolution. Her purpose is to transform learning in Africa especially STEM Education for the economic prosperity and future readiness for over 2 million children in Africa by the year 2030.

She is working on engaging children, teachers and parents to boost 21st century skills that prepare African children for the future of work. She was selected to be a part of the 2018 Spring Cohort of the MIT innovation and Entrepreneurship bootcamp at Brisbane, Australia.

She worked for the City of New York Board of Education; has a permanent Math educator license for the State of New York. Also taught in California, South Carolina and North Carolina respectively. Is a STEM Certified Expert in STEM pedagogy. She has taught students from the 6th grade to teaching at Fordham University, College of New Rochelle, as well as several Polytechnics in New York and North Carolina as an Adjunct Lecturer. She’s a Partner at TLcom Capital, a seed-to-growth stage VC firm, and a Co-Founder & General Partner at FirstCheck Africa, an early-stage VC firm investing in tech startups founded or co-founded by women.

Eloho co-founded FirstCheck Africa in 2021. FirstCheck Africa’s investment portfolio includes startups in Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa & Kenya, led by female founders building in financial services, education, healthcare and retail/commerce. Through FirstCheck Africa, she is committed to helping Africa’s exceptional female entrepreneurial talent build great companies.

TLcom Capital invests in Africa’s best entrepreneurs tackling the continent’s biggest challenges. Her book, The Definition of a Miracle, is a fictional account of experiences she had as a child growing up with cerebral palsy in Ghana.

She also oversaw the first PPP process implemented by Ministry of Health to ensure pharmaceutical storage in Nigeria, which provided critical structure on how commodities get delivered to the last mile

As South Africa’s largest property development and the largest mixed-use development in Africa, Waterfall City is located on 2,200-hectares of land and has a Science-Based Target for greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 2030.

Osasuyi co-led the evaluation of Breakthrough ACTION’s Advocacy Core Group Model for Integrated Social Behavior Change (SBC) Programming in Nigeria and led the UNDP Pillar 5 (data component) of the EU-Spotlight Initiative to eliminate inequality driven by gender norms. She also led the design and implementation of a groundbreaking research study that explored barriers to uptake of clinical management of rape (CMR) services in conflict settings in Nigeria. Fatima Kyari Mohammed

In July 2020, Fatima Tlaleng Mofokeng was appointed as the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health by the United Nations Human Rights Council. She is known for advocating for universal health access, HIV care, youth-friendly services, and family planning. Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng is also a member of the boards of the Safe Abortion Action Fund, Global Advisory Board for Sexual Health and Wellbeing, and Accountability International, and chairs the board of the Soul City Institute. She has also worked as a commissioner at the Commission for Gender Equality in South Africa and an advisor to the Technical Committee for the National Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Framework Strategy in South Africa.

Ramatu facilitated and coordinated the Kaduna State Government’s strategic investments in developing human resource capacity in logistics and supply chain management, resulting in 17 civil servants obtaining MSc degrees in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the United Kingdom. She has contributed significantly to product and system value chain challenges in low- and middle-income countries, serving as a keynote speaker, policy analyst, development strategist, circular economy champion, subject matter expert, and researcher locally and internationally.

Ramatu holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria and an MSc. degree in Pharmacology from Usmanu Danfodio University in Sokoto. Moky Makura is a multi-talented individual with an extensive professional background in various fields. She was born in Nigeria, raised and educated in England, and has lived in different cities such as London, Johannesburg, and Lagos. Currently, she serves as the Executive Director of Africa No Filter, a donor collaborative focused on changing the African narrative. Moky previously held the position of Deputy Director for Communications Africa at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where she was responsible for building and managing the foundation’s reputation on the continent. She also served as the foundation’s Country Representative to South Africa in 2017, where she oversaw government relations and internal program coordination. Before her time at the Gates Foundation, Moky was the Communications Director for the Tony Elumelu Foundation in Nigeria.

Aside from her work in communications and philanthropy, Moky is a well-known TV presenter, producer, author, and publisher, as well as a successful entrepreneur. She holds an Honours degree in Politics, Economics and Law from Buckingham University in the UK. Keneiloe Molopyane is an experienced Associate Lecturer in the higher education industry, with a demonstrated history of working in this field. She is skilled in Archival Research, Photography, Biological Anthropology, Anthropology, and Public Archaeology. She holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree from University of York in  Bioarchaeology.

Molopyane’s passion for exploring the secrets of the earth began at a young age. Born in Benoni, a mining town in Gauteng, South Africa, she knew she wanted to be an archaeologist after watching The Adventures of Tintin when she was just seven years old. She has been dubbed as one of South Africa’s underground astronauts and was named one of 15 Emerging Explorers for the National Geographic Society and in in 2022, was featured by AMAKA on ‘ 10 African Women in STEM You Should Know.

Molopyane gained global attention as part of a crew of six female scientists who discovered an unknown human species, now known as Homo naledi. This discovery was a significant milestone in the scientific community, and  is the first post-doctoral research fellow at Wits University’s Centre for Exploration of the Deep Human Journey. As a Black academic, she feels  her experience allows her students to see archaeology and anthropology from a new perspective.

Abena is a council member of both the Ghana Association of Bankers and the National Banking College. Her fluency in English, coupled with a working knowledge of French, has undoubtedly contributed to her success as a versatile leader.

 

 

 

For the third time in 3 years, the remarkable impact of outstanding career women is set to take the centre stage as 9to5Chick announces a call for nominations for its 100 Top Career Women in Africa.

Launched in 2020, the 9to5Chick’s  100 Top Career Women in Africa is a distinctive recognition that brings to the spotlight the accomplishments and contributions of audacious women in the business and corporate sector. Previously,  this recognition was exclusively for women in Nigeria but has now expanded its focus to honor and celebrate women from all over Africa.

Founder of 9to5Chick, Glory Edozien (PhD), believes that “corporate African women do great work but rarely receive the recognition they deserve.” Many who are so focused on hardwork have deliberately shunned the spotlight thereby denying the emerging generation of female visionaries the opportunity to learn from their expertise and get inspired by their work. By recognising these women, we secure a thriving future for the next generation of audacious women.

This recognition also serves the IWD 2023 campaign theme #EmbraceEquity as 9to5chick seeks to celebrate women who challenge gender stereotypes, and have broken the glass ceilings in their respective fields, forging positive change, especially in fields that are male dominated.

For this selection, 9to5chick has set up an advisory panel consisting of 5 independent judges with passion and demonstrated history in identifying and selecting women deserving of this recognition. Funke Amobi

Funke is a globally recognised Human Resources professional and multiple award winner. She has over 25 years of experience across Oil & Gas, Banking & Telecommunications sectors and currently serves as the Regional Head for People & Culture Nigeria & West Africa for Standard Bank Group with the responsibility for shaping the people and culture strategy across six countries.

Yemi Faseun

Yemi is a business leader with over 30 years of multi-sector, multi-function experience. He is currently the Chief Talent Officer at YT Talent Officer and was a two-term elected council member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).  He has received a number of global recognitions such as Top 8 HR Thought Leader in Africa, Top 50 Personality on LinkedIn, 2022 Top 200 Global Thought Leader among others.

Osayi Alile

Osayi is the CEO of Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation and has over 25 years of experience across different sectors. She is an experienced Council Member with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organisation management industry. She has also been named one of the African Women of the Year in 2015.

Nkiru Olumide – Ojo

Nkiru is currently the Africa Regions Executive Head, Marketing Corporate Communications & CSI at Standard Bank Group. She leads a diverse team across African countries to deliver business objectives through Brand Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Corporate Social Investment. Over the course of her 20 years across career, she has gotten several recognitions such as Leading Woman in Marketing and Communications 2016, Marketing Personality of the year among others. She is also a published author of the ‘Pressure Cooker-Lessons from a woman at work’ and is a female enthusiast.

Tewa Onasanya

Tewa Onasanya is a British-Nigerian publisher, philanthropist, Author and Mindset Stylist. She is the Founder/CEO of Exquisite Magazine Services Ltd, the publishers of Exquisite Magazine and the organizers of EMAC Walk and ELOY Awards. Tewa has been featured in numerous international and Nigerian media which include the CNN, BBC, New York Times, Wikipedia, Punch, Guardian, Thisday, Vanguard and more newspapers, Television and Radio stations. She has won several awards internationally and in Nigeria.

9to5Chick is Africa’s leading career development platform for women, founded by Glory Edozien (PhD). Its mission is to help women in mid and senior-level careers build visibility and thought leadership, while also assisting organisations in identifying, training, and retaining top female talent.

The 9to5chick Top 100 Career Women in Nigeria list, celebrates inspiring mid and senior level female professionals in the corporate sector who are making significant contributions at work, leading by example, and disrupting the status quo.

The list is a deliberate compilation of female leadership, some of whom hitherto now, despite having various laudable, documented achievements, may not have been given the visibility commensurate to their significant career contributions.

Tope is an experienced Human Resources professional with over 10 years HR consulting and management experience. She is currently the Human Resources Director at British American Tobacco, West Africa, where she provides strategic HR Leadership, Business Partnering, and Talent Management Solutions, covering over 22 countries across West Africa. Prior to this, Tope worked at top firms including KPMG, Stanbic IBTC, where she led HR Services.

 

Bunmi Adeniba

Marketing Director, Unilever Plc, Nigeria

 

Bunmi is an experienced Marketing Professional and Commercial Operator with cross functional experience in Brand Building, New Category Development, Innovation Management and Quality Management. She has hands-on general management experience in the end-to-end oversight function of a division. In 2020,she was appointed the Vice-President of the World Federation of Advertisers and is responsible for coordinating the Regional Network of Advertisers in Africa.

 

Patricia Obozuwa

Vice President, Government Affairs, Communications, Cocacola

 

As Head, External Relations, Nigeria and Corporate Communication Leader, Sub-Saharan Africa at Procter & Gamble (P&G), she pioneered the public relations function and built the West Africa communications team; as Chief Communications & Public Affairs Officer for General Electric Africa, notable among her achievements in the organisation is the creation of  ‘GE Lagos Garage’- a hub for advanced manufacturing skills development that has produced over 2,400 graduates; and as Arts and Sponsorship Manager for the British Council in Nigeria, she influenced and attracted attention to the Council. In December 2020, she was appointed Vice President, Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability, Africa at The Coca-Cola Company. Throughout her career, Patricia has identified personal leadership as the cornerstone for success.

Mofoluwaso Ilevbare is a Confidence Coach, Bestselling Author and a seasoned  HR Thought Leader with over 17 years industrial & organizational experience across Africa, Middle East, India, U.S. and Europe. Over the course of her 20-year career which saw her work in Consumer goods and Pharmaceuticals, she has gained versatility and depth working across different fields, including Sales and Supply Chain. With competencies in revenue growth, international logistics, demand forecasting and supply network design, she is the go-to person for troubleshooting potential operational loopholes that span across forecasting and planning, customer relationship management, distributor management dynamics etc .

 

Azukaego Chukwuelue is passionate about gender inclusion in male-dominated fields and she achieves this through Truss empowerment Foundation. She’s a gender inclusion advocate and thought leader.

 

Esther Adegunle

Business Development Leader, DAI Nigeria

 

Esther is the Business Development Leader at DAI Nigeria. She leads local business development and works with other business development teams to win opportunities with donor organisations like DFID, USAID, WB and EU. As a multi-faceted lady, she manages her social enterprise Belle&Grace where she supports mums to be and new mothers during breastfeeding. Also, she founded an NGO – BeyondaDegree- which in the last 6 years has supported over 200 students/new graduates transit to life after school. Lastly, she is a storyteller, documenting her life journey on her blog – Chronicles of Grace – and recently published a book “Driving in Lagos”.

 

Chineze Amanfo

Amanfo who has come to be known in the perception industry as a conscientious and creative corporate communications professional, has extensive experience spanning over 15 years, commencing with a career at foremost PR agency, C&F Porter Novelli. The alumna of the University of Calabar’s experience cuts across proactive and reactive corporate and product communications as well as crisis management.  An accredited public relations practitioner and toastmaster, Chineze is actively involved in community organizations and activities aimed at advancing the public relations profession. She is passionate about capacity building, and in her spare time mentors at youth empowerment programs. Omotola Oyebanjo

Omotola Oyebanjo is the Head, Corporate Affairs and Communications for Africa, Upfield, the largest plant-based consumer goods company in the world.   She has accrued close to two decades of experience in Corporate, Development and Marketing Communications across FMCG, extractive, marketing and financial industries.

Omotola Oyebanjo is the immediate past Head of Corporate Communications at Lafarge Africa. She was the Head, Strategic Communications and Media at Union Bank of Nigeria; Communications Consultant at Aerialview Marketing Communications Africa and Head Corporate Communications at British Council. She also worked in a managerial capacity in the Internal Communications department at Unilever Nigeria.

As a Consultant she has managed accounts such as the Australian Trade Commission, International Breweries, Kia Motors, Haansbro Confectioneries, NISSAN Motors, United Kingdom Education Advisory Services, Edinburgh Napier University Scotland, BPP University and Sheffield Hallam University UK.  She is also involved in several empowerment programmes for women and young people in Nigeria.

 

Ugochi Akwiwu-Onyike

Ugochi Akwiwu is currently the Supervisor, Operations Performance Management in the Planning & Commercial Division of the NPDC, a subsidiary of the NNPC. A sought after thought leader, she was a speaker at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE),Benin section, and was also discussant at the 2020 virtual colloquium which dwelt on business growth, survival and improvement in the post covid-19 era.

Alero Balogun

Head, Corporate Communications, Oando

Alero Balogun is the Head, Corporate Communications and CSR at Oando PLC. With over 15 years’ experience in marketing and communications, she joined Oando in 2013 as the Corporate Communications Manager, a role she held for 4 years before rising to her current position. She presently heads a team with the remit of driving positive brand perception both internally and externally via showcasing Oando as the most desirable company to work and invest in. She successfully managed the strategy development and execution of local and international campaigns for Oando’s N1.6bn acquisition of ConocoPhillips Nigeria in 2014. Rosario Osobase

Rosario Osobase is Commercial Manager for Tenaris Global Services in Nigeria. She has 14 years of experience spanning both technical and commercial roles in leading local and international companies including British American Tobacco, Schlumberger and Tenaris. While with Schlumberger Nigeria, Rosario started out as a Drilling Services Engineer working on major fields for the International Oil Companies operating in Nigeria. Following this phase, she took up various lead technical roles in deepwater drilling operations which culminated in the role of Sales engineer for one of Schlumberger’s Businesses in Nigeria. She later joined Tenaris Global Services, where she is responsible for executing commercial strategy in Nigeria. Rosario has a Bachelor degree of Computing University of Bradford (first class honours graduating with the overall best performance). She has also attended numerous local and overseas management training. She is the Executive Secretary of petroleum contractors trade section under LCCI, a fund raiser volunteer at Slum2school Africa and was a business mentor at the CIS Lagos.

 

Fabia Ogunmekan

Executive Director, Wiscar Nigeria

 

Fabia Ogunmekan has spent the last 18 years working in the fields of Law and Development and has worked in various capacities with non-profits in the Healthcare, Gender and Entrepreneurship sectors. She was the Executive Secretary of Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) an NGO that advocates for gender parity and empowerment of women through structured mentoring and role modeling for leadership programmes. Since her appointment as ES, Fabia has driven the visibility of the WISCAR brand and created new impressive channels of impact. In 2020, she was appointed as the Executive Director of WISCAR. She is also the Founding Trustee of Imara Foundation, a women’s philanthropic movement promoting women’s cause-based organizations.  She spent 8 successful years in different management and executive roles, culminating in her role as Head of Group Legal and Regulatory Compliance; the Tony Elumelu Foundation as Alumni Engagement Manager where she was responsible for engagement programs and collaborative partnership opportunities for the Alumni network. She has consulted and is a facilitator at the Lagos Business School’s Nonprofit Leadership and Management Programme. In her spare time she volunteers as a mentor.

 

Jane Onwuchekwa

Educator, Data Analyst, Coursera, Data Stuma LLC

Jane is a data-driven and insightful educator who is passionate about STEM, bridging the gender gap in STEM and redefining the educational sector. She is involved in mentoring and coaching girls from low-income backgrounds to become confident to face challenges irrespective of their environment. She achieves this by teaching them Robotics, Electronics, Mechanics, Science, Computer Programming, fundamentals of web design and computer programming to stimulate their interest in STEM fields. She also provides lessons in soft skills courses such as  Leadership and Entrepreneurship to ensure value based, ethical and transformed women who will become bold leaders and create jobs by solving problems.

Kemi Ogunsanya

Literacy Educator, Sunnydale School, Lagos

Kemi is an educator par excellence, a literacy educator at SunnyDale, Lagos. She has teaching experience across both public and private schools at primary and secondary levels.  Kemi has her first degree in English Education and her Masters Degree in Educational Planning and Administration. She is the convener of The Pristine Project, an initiative aimed towards the advocacy of menstrual health and hygiene for females as well as equipping girls in rural areas with entrepreneurial skills. She is also the convener of The Teachers Discourse Series, a platform born to equip teachers with relevant skills necessary to upscale their impact.

She facilitated the creative use of technological tools and platforms in facilitating learning for more than 100 students during the pandemic-induced lockdown. In 2020, she was involved in Advancing training in Teacher Education by reaching out to more than 1000 teachers via volunteering to facilitate at various physical and virtual platforms where she taught extensively on Quality Education strategies, 21st Century Educator Skills, Multiple Intelligences, amongst other pertinent topics.

She convened a menstrual hygiene campaign and a skill empowerment session for female teenagers in Ebute-Metta Lagos where the girls were educated on menstrual health practices, taught to produce basic hygiene products, and free sanitary wares were also distributed to them. She consistently leverages social media to share best practices, valuable experiences, and insights into the world of Education garnered on her role as a classroom teacher which can be inculcated by teachers seeking growth.

 

Dr Yemi Dawodu

Director, CLINA LANCET LABORATORIES NIGERIA

Yemi is a pathologist (Anatomic and Molecular) and CEO in a world class multinational ISO 15189 accredited laboratory in Nigeria. She has over 15 years recognised experience in the healthcare sector spanning clinical, research, senior management and administrative roles. She led her team in setting up a facility at Maitama which was unveiled as part of the company’s efforts to provide laboratory services of international standards with 100% accurate and reliable test results at all times.

Ezinne Okey-Uchendu

Assistant Director, National Agency For Control Of  AIDS(NACA)

Ezine is a health development expert with over 15years.  She currently works as a Chief Programme Officer with the Community Prevention and Care Services Directorate of The National Agency for the control of AIDS (NACA) Abuja, Nigeria where she leads the HIV and Drug Use component of the HIV response. She works in the area of building the capacity of stakeholders and local Non-governmental organizations to be sustainable service delivery implementers and change agents. She has a proven track record for improving the living conditions of Nigerians focusing on poor community members and building strong relationships between them and the donors. She is a recognised thought leader and international speaker who has presented papers at many international conferences, including the Pan-Africa Health Conference in Yaoundé Cameroon

Lara Yeku

Head, HR, Food Division at Flour Mills of Nigeria PLC

Lara is a global HR leader, a coach, and a strategist who has had a progressive career climb. She started her career at Cadbury Nigeria Plc. Thereafter, she moved to Human Capital  Development Consultants Ltd (HCDC), one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing HR Consulting firms and later joined DHL Excel Logistics as a Human Resource Officer. In 2008, Lara joined the HR team at Accenture and rose to the position of Country HR Lead for Accenture in Nigeria, where she served until March 31st, 2019. Lara cares about the professional growth of HR professionals, hence, she founded the HR GEMs Coach Network (Human Resources Great  Excellent Minds Coach Network) – a platform that offers a safe haven for HR professionals to thrive, learn, share and build life transformation skills.  She is also the author of a first of its kind, imaginative mentoring through storytelling concept book – My HR Storybook for HR professionals. Senami Johnson

Senami is an experienced emerging market investor banker and advisor with 12 years experience in client coverage, transaction origination, deal structuring, due diligence and project execution. She is a P3 Member at Parity and a Women In Management and Business Associate and Mentee. She is an Investment Banker solving problems for early growth start-ups by providing access to inexpensive capital. Senami is the founder of Growvest investment club and she teaches on personal finance tips and tricks. Senami has interest in simplifying three distinct problems for women and early growth start-ups; valuation, optimal capital structure and access to inexpensive capital.

Seun Runsewe

Vice President of growth, Softcom Limited

Seun Runsewe is the Vice President of Growth at Softcom, where she is leading efforts to deliver growth to Nigerian entrepreneurs through their digital bank, Eyowo. Prior to Softcom, she was the Director of Product at Opera-backed payments startup OPay. OPay has raised ~USD170m in funding in the last year and has over 300,000 agents in Nigeria — the largest agent network in the country — who process over $2 bn in monthly transactions.

Prior to OPay, she built and beta-launched Switch by Sterling Bank, a multi-currency digital bank with integrations to interest savings, health insurance products for the Nigerian middle class and Nigerians in the Diaspora to address multiple financial needs in one place, making her the youngest banking CEO in Africa at the time. Before building Switch, she was an early member and the Business Lead at Paystack, a Y-Combinator backed online payments company that got acquired by Stripe for $200m.

Seun started her career as a Management Consultant and the Project Coordinator for Project Africa, KPMG’s initiative to push the frontiers of Financial Services in Africa across banking, payments and financial risk management – where she built muscles around strategy and business planning.

 

In 2019, she was recognized by The Future Project as an honoree of #YTech100 for being one of the brightest and best Nigerian technocrats. She founded Biamo Maternity designs,a thoughtful mummy gear, born out of pain of  HG in pregnancy.

 

Engr Lola Masha

Executive Director, Babban Gona

 

Lola Masha is a Nigerian technology executive.  She is currently the Executive Director of Babban Gona, “an innovative Agricultural Franchise model founded to leverage the private sector to address Nigeria’s spiralling youth unemployment challenge.”  Lola started her career as a consultant at the Chicago office of McKinsey & Company, engaging with senior management across several industries. She moved on to a new role leading the corporate strategy team at one of Nigeria’s commercial banks. She later joined OLX Group, starting as Country Manager for Nigeria, and then adding SSA Product Lead to her portfolio  She was the director trust and safety at OLX and was responsible for driving all elements of OLX  in Nigeria, including Business Development, Product Localization, Marketing and other relevant functions. Prior to joining OLX, Lola spent four years at Google leading various Product Partnerships efforts across EMEA and Emerging Markets. Lola was one of the earliest Googlers in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) when the technology company began its operations in the region. Lola shaped the regional strategy, executed on several core initiatives and led business development efforts with key SSA partners including telcos, original equipment manufacturers, digital content providers and local entrepreneurs. Lola holds a BSc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia (UVA) and a PhD. Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was elected as the President of the Graduate Student council.

Colette Otusheso is celebrated for her groundbreaking work in media and entertainment; from coordinating top international collaborations, organizations and events such as MTV’s MAMA Awards, Nickelodeon and BET Projects e.t.c to currently leading the movement of empowerment, education and entertainment for Millennial, through the Accelerate TV platform. Collette is known as a champion for the creative industry, creating opportunities for premium collaborations and platforms to showcase the work of talented creatives

 

Bukola Kogbe

Bukola has over 17years proven track record in delivering outstanding value in Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Consumer Goods, B2B, Investment Banking industries. She is a HR professional, founder and coordinator of Working Woman Africa – an initiative set up to promote the lives and rights of women in sharing trade secrets on time, money, running a household and raising kids. She is a speaker, certified job plus coach and a certified investigator.

PEARL UZOKWE,

Director Sustainability and governance, Sahara Group

Pearl Uzokwe is the Director for Governance and Sustainability at Sahara Group Limited. Pearl has had remarkable professional growth in the last fifteen years whilst building her legal career within UK and Nigerian corporate structures.  In 2002, she began working at the Crown Agents UK providing specialist and multidisciplinary services in institutional development, international trade & procurement and finance. Her role in the legal department of the organization, saw her partner frequently with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) in the development and administration of a number of notable funds including the Private Infrastructure Development Group – set up to facilitate private investment in the infrastructure needed to help alleviate poverty in developing countries and the International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIM) – a $4 billion investment facility designed to accelerate the availability of funds to be used for health and immunisation programs in 70 of the world’s poorest countries. She built a strong working relationship from amongst the donors which included country donors like the UK, French and South African governments and private NGOs like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation  Pearl’s vast professional experience within the upstream, downstream and midstream sectors of the oil and gas industry, corporate law and international development culminated in her appointment as the Group’s Director for Governance and Sustainability – a role which her professional pursuits and private passions seemed to have been leading up to in the period before hand.  She has been featured in several platforms for interviews and as a speaker.

In this role, she takes the lead in providing legal advice across the full range of labour & employment issues, including employment litigation; mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; employee discipline, grievances and termination; restructuring, outsourcing; equal opportunities and other related employment issues across all GE businesses within SSA – which includes: Power, Healthcare, Transportation, Energy Connections, Renewables, and Hydro.

 

She started out in Human Resources (HR) at Procter & Gamble and it was her HR career that prepared her for every role she has had in Legal so far, at GE Africa.

Ada Osademey Udechukwu, Gender And Economic Inclusion

Until last year, Ada worked as the head of women banking, Access Bank .

Ada is a gender specialist and finance professional with a demonstrated history of working in the banking industry and leading gender-focused programs in Nigeria and key African markets. Her professional experience spans across retail banking, customer service, centralised processing, customer data management, retail operations and products & segments management with a focus on the women’s market (financial inclusion, women’s participation in entrepreneurship and in the workplace).

She uses her platform to speak against workplace bullying and is currently a mentor at the Cherie Blair Foundation For Women. Ada is also an advisory board member of Shecluded and a Volunteer Coordinator for REVAMP Africa.

 

Tracy Akpofure

She was the first female chair of PENGASSAN, Oando PLC Branch. She led the process review of Oando’s Procure to Pay (P2P) procedure in 2021 which reduced the Group’s Purchase order creation and approval cycle time by 30%.

 

As the operation Coordinator of Oando Foundation, Tracy oversees the organization’s governance and administration. Tracy is an experienced operations management leader with 16 years of operations, project, risk and change management experience garnered within the Oil & Gas, Telecoms, and Charity Sectors in the EMEA region. She was a Programme Officer at the Foundation between 2013 and 2016, effectively managing the implementation of the Adopt-A-School Initiative (AASI) in assigned states, and successfully implementing the pilot phases of the Early Childhood Care and Development center and ICT center components respectively.

 

She has managed numerous projects in her different roles over the years and garnered valuable experience in Corporate Services & Operations, Governance, Project Management and Administrative Management. Tracy obtained a BSc in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the University of Lagos.

 

She has received several awards and employer’s recognition for the outstanding work she does.

 

Khadijah Abu

Khadijah Abu is the Head Of Paystack Payments Limited. She’s a seasoned professional with more than 10 years of experience in the Nigerian Fintech and Payments space working in Operations, Business Process Re-engineering and Product Management. In that time, she has managed products generating billions of dollars in revenue, and has led the design and implementation of several business automation projects. She also hosts science-based game shows for Nigerian Students on DSTV and participates in a number of volunteer initiatives as a way to give back to the community. She runs a product development platform called Product Tank Lagos.

 

Ujunwa Ojemeni

Ujunwa Ojemeni is an impact investing, energy and development expert with experience in the areas of opportunity maturation, financing and policy. She has coordinated several gas and power development opportunities as well as energy funds worth over $1 Billion. Ujunwa is the founder of the African Women in Energy Development Initiative (AWEDI Network). She has spoken on several regional and international platforms including: MIT Solve 2020, ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum in Accra, and the West Africa Power and Energy Cooperation Conference in Dakar. Adaeze Oreh

Country Head, Planning, Research and Statistic, National Blood Transfusion Service.

 

Adaeze works with health and development policymakers at ministerial and sub-ministerial levels to create blood policies that reduce maternal mortality and reduce the transfer of infections such as HIV through unsafe blood transfusions as well as improving the distribution of safely screened blood to hard-to-reach areas especially in times of terror and conflict. She was recently selected by the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development as one of 15 women from 11 countries in Africa for the second cohort of #AmujaeLeaders.  She is keenly interested in research and analysis focused on health systems policy, financing and strengthening; maternal, new-born, child and adolescent health; mental health and tropical infectious diseases and has authored over 300 health policy briefs. Adaeze is also a Family Physician, Public Policy Specialist, Rural and Global Health & Development Advocate and 2019 Aspen New Voices Fellow with over 17 years’ experience in health management in both public and private health care organisations in Nigeria.

Two of Nigeria’s foremost women empowerment platforms Inspired by Glory, a personal development hub for women and Her Network, a networking platform for women, recently hosted career women to an evening of networking games, career development conversations and lively debates.

9to5chick is a product of Inspired by Glory dedicated to providing skills for career women to thrive in the workplace. The aim of the event was to create opportunities for professional women to network within and outside their sectors, learn key tips to excel in their careers and discuss issues that impact directly on women in the workplace.

The event which took place at Eve Restaurant in Victoria Island, featured career development tips led by high powered career women such as Peace Hyde, Forbes West Africa Correspondent, who shared tips on networking tips for career women; Chioma Dike, Senior Special Assistant, Lagos State Ministry of Women’s Affairs, who spoke on how women can support each other in the workplace and Toyin Awesu, Head Marketing and Communications, United Capital, who shared visibility tips for career women.

The event also featured conversations, which tackled hot button career issues faced by women such as harassment and discrimination against women in the workplace and surviving in male dominated careers.

Participants at the event commended the organisers for a highly impactful event, with one attendee remarking “it was an evening well-spent, with stimulating conversations” and another noting “I didn’t expect to enjoy myself as much as I did, it was great learning from speakers while meeting and making new friends.”

The Inspired by Glory Academy – a leadership development institute for career women and female entrepreneurs is proud to announce the launch of its career development hub for working women tagged #9to5Chick.
