A female student of the University of Benin, who goes by the facebook name Jennifer Belle Aise, took to her facebook account yesterday, February 22, 2016, to brag about adding cannabis to her little nephew’s plate of beans, to teach him a lesson. She posted a video of the poor boy feeling all drowsy and incoherent with a caption ”He didn’t greet me this morning so I added weed on his beans. Am I a wicked aunt??” She was even giggling while recording the video!

She later took down the video and denied ever adding cannabis to the boy’s food, saying ”it was just a joke”

Not quite long ago, a Youth Corper serving in Edo State, posted a photo of a young female student who he bragged to have slept with, and also posted a video of himself and his male students, hanging out and him actually promising to get them palmwine to celebrate valentine. All efforts to get information about the guy proved abortive as the NYSC headquarter in the state (Edo State) got burnt that same week, and he has since taken down his Instagram account.

What is really going on with our youths in Edo State? What ever happened to being a role model for the young ones? It is quite unfortunate and saddening that the leaders of tomorrow are now using social media to gain cheap publicity. I fear for the future of Nigeria!

While addressing this incident, the Editor-In-Chief of Women Of Rubies and the Founder/ Executive Director of Rubies Ink Initiative, Esther Ijewere, said,

”This is becoming alarming!!! Second case of Child abuse in two weeks from Edo State.

Just last week the video of the youth Corp member who bragged about sleeping with an underage girl and promised to also give primary school students palm wine went viral and this morning again I woke up to several tags on this video . While we are still trying to investigate the case of the corper as NYSC office in Edo state couldn’t give any info yet because there office got burnt last Friday , this one decided to drop her own stupidity online.

I hope Edo based NGO’S will stand up this time and join us in speaking out. Appears this people think they can get away with anything .

Some people say she is joking but I beg to differ please, you don’t post such jokes especially when a child is involved on a public domain .

I hope Governor Obaseki will do something. These people are putting Edo state in bad light .”
