Oprah Winfrey has revealed that she has no interest in contesting against Trump for the US presidency in 2020. The world-famous television personality and business mogul disclosed this in InStyle magazine’s March 2018 issue.

After her acclaimed speech at the Golden Globes awards ceremony, people urged Winfrey to run for the White House, but she’s not interested.

Some Democrats still reeling from Hillary Clinton’s shock loss to Donald Trump, have embraced the idea of having their own celebrity candidate the next time around.

Winfrey told InStyle:

“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me.

With mass unemployment in Nigeria reaching a peak of 18.8% in the third quarter of 2017, tech savvy and increasingly well connected young people have embraced social media and, in the process, a new generation of high profile and highly paid personalities have emerged. Some Nigerian women are cashing in on social media and CNN has decided to recognize the good, honest work they are doing.

1. Sisi Yemmie: The vlogger inviting her viewers into her home

She offers her audience a glimpse into her home life, sharing her favorite recipes and her families likes and dislikes. She has cultivated a large following that has brands reaching out for collaboration.

It’s a delicate business, making her personal life so public. But it’s one that Sisi Yemmie understands very well.

“I’m a lifestyle blogger,” she says. “What I show is what it is. I don’t have time for fakeness. I don’t have time to create what is not there.”

But with this vulnerability comes a sense of responsibility. Sisi Yemmie knows she has to be strategic about what she shares; she has to think about her audience all the time.

“I realize there’s a responsibility that comes with this platform I have, and now I am always very careful what I say.

“I have to think about not just my audience; I have to think about brands and collaborations.”

2. Chiamaka Obuekwe: The travel blogger who goes off the beaten track

When it comes to visiting Nigeria’s most interesting and exciting places, Chiamaka Obuekwe, founder of travel company ‘The Social Prefect,’ knows exactly where to go.

She says her presence on social media has made it a lot easier to connect with people who are looking for exciting places to go in Nigeria.

“Ten years ago, we had to go door-to-door sharing our fliers…Now all we have to do is to put a post out on Instagram and in ten minutes people are dm’ing us.”

She’s one of the many Nigerians who, inspired by Linda Ikeji, seek to cash in on the abundant opportunities on social media.

3. Linda Ikeji: From gossip blogger to media mogul

Smart, focused and passionate about her work, Ikeji says she wants to be the Oprah Winfrey of Africa.

Ikeji, who started her social media career with gossip blogging, is now building one of Nigeria’s biggest private TV stations with Linda Ikeji TV.

“One of the things that drives a business to succeed is passion and I am so passionate about what I do,” she says.

“People like gossip because it is extremely personal,” she says. “They like the honesty, how real it is, how human…”

Two weeks ago, Nigeria’s first female skeleton athlete, Simidele Adeagbo made history when she became the African woman to qualify for the Winter Olympics in that category. She will be joining Nigeria’s other history-making athletes, The Ice Blazers, in PyeongChang, South Korea next month.

Tennis superstar and new mother, Serena Williams has shown her support and excitement for the first Nigerian bobsled team to compete in the February Winter Olympics.

Serena shared a video on Instagram of the Nigerian team training saying, “This video literally gave me chills. I am so excited to watch Nigeria compete in the winter Olympics bobsledding race, the first time an African country has ever competed in bobsledding.”

The video shows Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga training hard for their competition coming up in February.

The boiling Borno State capital, Maiduguri is one of the places in the north east that many dread to visit, especially if they do not have to – this is due to the unpredictable activities of the terror group Boko Haram in the city.

But On-air personality Toolz Oniru-Demuren, who was motivated by by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, recently visited the Bakassi IDP camp in Maiduguri, and she shared her experience on Instagram.

She shared a video showing fun moments with the camp kids, who she described as “Spirited”.

“Last year the British High Commissioner @PaulTArkwright challenged me to accompany his team on their next trip to visit an IDP camp. Today, I visited Maiduguri for the first time and met these spirited kids at the Bakassi I.D.P Camp. ❤❤ Thank you so much for the invitation!”, Toolz captioned the video.
