In her first TV interview since leaving the White House, Michelle Obama, former U.S. First Lady had a chat with Ellen Degeneres about her family’s  life in Washington, D.C. and the awkward gift she received from the Trumps at the Inauguration.

Michelle opened up about life after leaving the white house and the projects the family are working on.

Here are a few of the things she said in the interview:

1. On what she does after leaving the white house

“Nothing, i have all the time in the world. We are good, the girls are fine. Barrack is working and we take holidays. I wake up anytime i want and there really is no bid deal.”

2. On living in a regular house

We live in a neighborhood down the street from the white house. We have door bells now and i receive visitors. It is such a nice thing.

3. On if she feels weird living not far from the white house.

“We live in this neighborhood because we want our youngest daughter to finish high school in the school she has been since second grade. So it does not feel weird that we are so near the white house. I feel we transferred  the love and warmth we had in the white house to pour current house.”

4. On putting the house together

“I put the house together, together with my team. Sasha got a two room suite and she decorated it all by herself. Her sister got a small room up in the attic. {You know, you don’t waste rooms on college girls} Barrack  got the worst part of this decoration house deal. His office space is small and so, he is always hating on Sasha.”

5. On what she feels about the situation in the country.

People are afraid and then, there are people who feel good about the situation in the country. I learnt in the white house that we should care for each other- live for hope because that is all we have. I encourage you to love each other and show empathy.  Forget what they are saying in Washington.

Almost a year ago, we gushed about the talented Morenike Balogun, the Nigerian writer and actress, who writes for the Viola Davis-led, Emmy-winning ABC drama, How To Get Away With Murder.

Well, it turns out she is not the only Nigerian writer on the hit show’s crew. For the past two seasons, Balogun has been working alongside British-Nigerian filmmaker, Abby Ajayi, to help deliver one of our favourite shows on television.

Ajayi, who wrote the third season’s eleventh episode and the fourth season’s ninth episode, has served as a story editor for the show’s stellar fourth season. She works closely with Balogun, who is currently the executive story editor for the season.

While filmmaking was never Ajayi’s plan for her career, she’s been killing it. She started out as a Law student at Oxford, but as it turns out, her love for literature and the skills she picked up at Law school — strong writing and critical reading — made her into quite a solid screenwriter.

Prior to working on How To Get Away With Murder, Ajayi had already racked up writing credits on some of the UK’s longest-running dramas — EastEndersCasualtyand Doctors — and created projects, from short films to TV movies, that portrayed blackness in a positive light.

Speaking with FilmDoo about the portrayal of black women she saw on TV, she said:

“Representation is narrow and limited and I don’t see many black women on screen and not much aspiration in the lives shown.”

Well, Ajayi can be proud that she is one of the writers delivering TV’s most dynamic and complex black woman: Annalise Keating. It’s not every day we get to see a black, queer and powerful antiheroine grace our screens. We honestly can’t wait to see what the talented Ajayi does next.

16 year old Lulu has a scalp condition that causes severe dryness and hair breakage and loss, and had been so ashamed of her appearance that she had taken to wearing wigs in an effort to still feel beautiful but this mindset changed after a mind blowing experience.

We all know how easy it is to feel insecure at age 16 especially when you think you have something that diminishes your beauty. On the 28th of January, some boys at Lulu’s school had taken a $5 BET about pulling her wig off in front of everyone.

These kids not only tore her wig off in the middle of school, but video taped it. They followed her to the bathroom as she screamed and cried and proceeded to tape her over the stall as she cried and begged for her wig.

In a surprising show of bravery however, instead of Lulu to be depressed and try to get a new wig as fast as possible, she decided to shave her hair off and not let these bullies win. She did not want to feel controlled by her hair any longer, and so she took back her control.

Her mother, Myckelle shared the amazing story of her daughter on her Instagram page.
