Nyma Tang, know for her sumptuous dark skin has teamed up with MAC to create the perfect shade of red.

Beauty influencer Nyma Tang has created her own unique niche in the Youtube community by showing everyone the beauty of dark skin and challenging makeup brands to make inclusion a priority.

She has scored tons of fans with her gorgeous makeup looks and inspired the entire black community with her Darkest Shade series which is her taking the darkest shades from each make-up line to test whether it lives up to the hype. She has inspired scores of dark-skinned girls who previously felt excluded in the make-up community through her content.

MAC Cosmetics, the brand that also gave Tang her first sponsored video, is recognising Tang’s hard work by now giving the Youtube star her first product collaboration.

Nyma follows a whole host of influencers to create products with top make-up brands further illustrating the importance beauty influencers have on an already established industry.

This is not the first time Nyma has rocked a range of reds and we cannot wait to see what she has in store for us with this well-deserved MAC collaboration.

I did a small survey amidst a small group of beautiful, amazing and empowered women. I asked them about their basic body measurements. I wanted to know if they knew them offhand. It didn’t come as a surprise when the result of the survey revealed that 85% of them did not know. This was the result I expected as a fashion entrepreneur involved in the production process of the clothes we wear. However, the survey was not really about whether they knew it or not, it was about WHY they didn’t know these basic measurements offhand.
You see, until recently, I only made ready-to-wear dresses for women and oh my, my beautiful clients have really been quite sure about their sizing. They have been pretty sure about the uniqueness of the African woman’s body as well, but have not been pretty vocal about this. So I kept wondering what exactly was wrong because I have been pretty vocal on the latter.
According to the standard UK sizing chart, I make bold to say that I am a size 12 up and a size 10 down. You know my fiancé called me the other day with an unknown number and in his ‘plastic’ mind tried to play pretend. He goes:
“Hello, I will like to get a dress for my fiancée; she is a size 12 up and a size 10 down”
Seriously, make i no lie, I almost fell for it. I had already switched to my business mode, rubbing my palms until I heard “she is a size 12 up and a size 10 down.”
Now I am not even writing to bore you with ‘Bae tales’, I just wanted to emphasize the dynamics of getting the right fit for an African woman.
I did a little research on this and something struck me on Bustle’s site. Here I was, thinking it was all about labels and wanting to belong to a group or category in the sense that everyone just picks a figure that they believe is theirs and say, ‘I am a size 12, a size 8, a size…’, when Bustle attributed this to a certain FEAR of finding out their numbers are higher than what they think is the ‘right’ number for them. I saw this ‘fear’ play out, earlier in the week, in the comment section of a competitor’s instagram page where most of the women were scared that her own sizing guide made them ‘big.’
The sizing guide for my fashion outfit, 3113, is actually different from other brands’. I started by using ASOS’ sizing guide. I laugh as I remember that the kind of loss my business incurred in those early days because of this could be used to set up another business (I’ll save the story for my auto-biography). As I strove to improve our customer experience, I studied several sizing guides and came up with the appropriate guide for my businsess. I did this and avoided many complaints and returns because in the end every woman wants a perfect fit. The problem is that many women do not know their basic measurements offhand and I wonder, if a perfect fit is so super important to us, why can’t we just do what it takes and know three numbers off the top of our heads?
I do know mine, not because I am in the fashion industry, but because a perfect fit is important to me; I feel empowered with this knowledge.
As a woman who wants to slay always, will you challenge yourself today to make sure you know those basic (bust, waist, and hip) measurements? It is okay if your sizing changes per brand; it does not define you. It is okay to be in between. It is not about them, it is about you and your FIT (AKA snatched).
My name is Atinuke Junaid. I am a bust 37, waist 30 (Eba will not let me be great) and hip 38. Size 12 up, size 10 down according to 3113 measurement guide and I own it.

Now is the time to start thinking of how you can upgrade your style in the new year.

Probably you didn’t have many fashion hits this year, but with the coming is a grand opportunity to switch up your style such that you step out looking your best every time.

Of course its not everyone who loves to follow the trends, but there are simple general changes you can male to your styles that will affect your total look.

These simple changes will make a whole lot of difference to your wardrobe, style and looks.

1.  Find and befriend a good tailor

The key to looking good every time is always wearing clothes that are your perfect fit. most clothing you buy off the rack won’t fit you right unless you are a perfect sample size. You could anticipate that you’ll grow into it, but a tailor can work wonders for you in any circumstance. Also for outfits you want to have sown, a good tailor that work magic in bringing that dream look to reality.

2. Learn to dress for the occasion

Dressing for the occasion is another simple way to ensure you always make the right statement with your outfit. Imagine showing up at a friend’s wedding in a t-shirt and denim… that is the wrong statement. You can use the internet as a guide for selecting outfits for your events too.

3. Invest in quality staple items

There are some clothing items such as your denim pants that should always be in top shape. Try to replace the worn out ones as the new year approaches. You don’t have to buy a new one. There are several second-hand clothing items that will look as good as new.

4. Learn some simple customizations

Got a hole in the elbow of your sweater? Learn how to sew a patch over it. Got a dirty spread or button-down collar on your oxford shirt? Cut the flap off and make it a band collar shirt. Customizations give old clothing items that are on the brink of extinction that breath of life to prosper as if they’re brand new.

5. Watch out for colours that flatter your skin tone

Knowing the colours that work well with your skintone goes a long way to determine how good you will look in them. Your our different skintones, there are colours that will make you glow up while others will just nmake you look boring.

A seamless foundation application should be crease free, not settle into fine lines or be patchy or flaky and most importantly should feel and look like your skin- you shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between your complexion and your foundation- it should fit picture perfectly.

To achieve seamless foundation coverage, there are easy tips to be followed through to make sure the rest of the makeup go on perfectly as well.

  1. Allow your foundation sit and dry before going ahead with other beauty products. Making sure the foundation gets dry ensures it doesn’t melt into other products and ‘wash or melt’ them off.

  2. Never use dirty tools to apply foundation. Clean beauty tools to ensure a clean layer of product is spread on the face when applying foundation. When dirty tools are used products are re-transferred on the face and this cause breakouts, block pores etc.

  3. To ensure even foundation distribution, start applying foundation from the centre of the face and work outwards, this helps to even out the foundation around the face.

  4. Don’t apply foundation only on the face, apply product right around the jawline, work product around every visible skin around the face and blend products down towards the neck area, the ears etc for an even and seamless coverage.

  5. Never skip primer/try out the powder before foundation technique. Make sure your foundation stays in place by first priming the skin or start out with translucent powder (for light every day wear) to keep foundation in place.
